The explosion erupted in an area mainly housing several foreign embassies and homes of diplomats. "We have reports of a blast in the Furn al-Shebbak neighbourhood," a security official said on Friday; according to Aljazeera Witnesses said several cars were set ablaze by the blast.
Ambulances and security vehicles raced to the scene. The explosion came 10 days after a car bomb damaged a US diplomatic car in the Lebanese capital, killing three people and wounding 16.
