India allows SL to question Sea Tiger suspect
By Sunil Jayasiri
Indian defence authorities have given permission to Sri Lankan
authorities to interrogate a recently arrested senior Sea Tiger in
Chennai. Two more rebel suspects have also been taken into
custody on Wednesday in Chennai by the Indian police, a top
defence official said.
Accordingly, two officers from the Sri Lankan State Intelligence
Service (SIS) will travel to Chennai to interrogate 34 year-old
Jayakumar alias Gowrishankar, who was arrested by the Indian
police on December 9.
Sri Lanka Defence Ministry officials had made a request to the
Indian defence authorities seeking access to the arrested Sea
Tiger Leader Jayakumar, stating that the Sri Lankan intelligence
service wanted to interrogate the Tiger leader to obtain some
important information.
Initially the Sri Lanka Navy also requested the Defence Ministry
to allow them to interrogate the arrested Sea Tiger in India.
However, the Defence Ministry has only authorized
representatives of the SIS to interrogate the suspect.
Meanwhile, Chennai police had arrested two more LTTE
suspects in Chennai on Wednesday, on information received
from Jayakumar.
