Unemployed graduates' agitation dispersed with tear gas in Colombo

Nov 01, Colombo: Police used tear gas and water cannons this afternoon to disperse a group of unemployed graduates protesting in Colombo Fort.
Police dispersed the agitators when they attempted to proceed towards the Ministry of Finance. Several students have reportedly been injured in the chaos.
Joint Unemployed Graduates’ Union has organized the campaign to protest the failure to give public sector employments to graduates as promised in 2006 budget proposals. The Union is planning another protest rally after the budget is presented to the parliament.
