Tiger “refugees” arrested in IndiaMonday, April 16, 2007, 14:44 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Apr 16, Colombo: Three members of LTTE intelligence wing staying among the refugees in India were arrested by the Tamil Nadu police.
The three Tigers identified as Deva Jothiswaran (28), Justin Raj (20) of Jaffna and Suganthan (27) of Mannar from the Mandapam refugee camps were sent to a special camp in Chengalpattu in Kancheepuram district, an Indian news report said.
The Hindu newspaper quoting a Tamil Nadu police officer said that the trio may have been there to “read the `mood' of the people, the preparedness and activities of security agencies, loopholes in the existing set-up, chances of establishing new networks."
According to the Indian police this is the first time they have arrested LTTE's `O' members, members of its intelligent network.
Indian Police say they cannot rule out the presence of more Tigers staying under the guise of refugees in the camps. The refugee camps and several areas are being monitored for the presence of Tigers, the Police said.
